A tribute to Jeremy Fernand

Max and Gillian went through a parent’s worst nightmare, the death of their child Jeremy Fernand.

Jeremy was only 19 years when he fell off a running train on the 26th of November 2017. He succumbed to his injuries at Cooper hospital in Mumbai.

It was a shock to his parents and to all of us who knew him and the family. The pain was agonizing, the questions unending.

It was like being thrown into the deepest and darkest pit possible. Gillian cried out to God, praying that if it is His will let Jeremy be raised from the dead. We all wept. Friends and family poured into their home that dark night to comfort them, shocked themselves. The people from their local church enveloped them with love and comfort.

But something unexpected started taking place almost within minutes of Gillian receiving the news at home. She started saying, “Lord if it is your will, I accept it. ” She started praising God at that most difficult moment.

Even Max who was at the Hospital, once he overcame the initial shock, was able to reach out and comfort his shocked friends who were gathered there.

What we witnessed was the triumph of the Living HOPE Jesus Christ, over death, the fleshing out of the victory Jesus won for you and me on the cross, defeating sin and death for ever, once and for all, for we know that after Jesus died, he did not remain in the grace for long but came back to life on the third day, a fact of history that his enemies tried their best to deny.

Max and Gillian have experienced this by believing in the finished work of Jesus on the cross. They were able to live it out.

At the darkest moment of their lives, this light within them shone through.

This was real faith, this was Christianity at its most powerful moment.. They were able to sing and praise God because they made a choice in their hearts to believe in the promises of God. They knew for sure that Jeremy now was, not in a better place, but in the best place possible, as Gillian kept saying in the days following.

Death was defeated that day and we were witness to it. This was when we started to understand what was meant by the eternal verse in 1 Corinthians 15:55 “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?”

The way Max, Gillian and even Gabrielle, his 11 year old sister, conducted themselves during the days following the death of Jeremy was I think the greatest testimony to the resurrection power of Christ. Many people have been touched including atheists witnessing this. One said, if this is what faith is, I want to experience this. At the funeral where over a thousand gathered, everyone was comforted by how the parents behaved. It was almost as if the parents were drawing from an unending well, springs of living water and hope and joy just bubbled out of them.

Jeremy’s blogs have inspired many.

Jeremy’s friends who worked with him at 40 Parables, a company in Bangalore, gave powerful testimony to his life and how he was so different in many ways, his maturity and his wisdom. He used to think out of the box. [He was home schooled by his parents as they believed that was the best way to impart their faith and life to him]

They said that any problem, any curved ball thrown at him he could handle and turn into another opportunity for their company.

Here we saw that the greatest curved ball Satan could throw at a parent became another opportunity for them to display the glory of the risen Jesus Christ to the world.

All praise to our God who lives and loves us with passion. He knows you personally and his greatest desire is to bless you. Would you like to deepen your relationship with this God?

This hyper dimensional being who stepped into our world

People have varied languages, beliefs and physical features. So much diversity even in the same country or even state. Yet there is one belief that seems to be common to people all over the world. Guess what it is? Yes, a belief in the existence of a being outside their dimension, who has supernatural powers, whom I refer to as God.

I went to http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/supernatural to see the full Definition of SUPERNATURAL: of or relating to an order of existence beyond the visible observable universe; especially:  of or relating to God or a god, demigod, spirit, or devil.

I also went through the traditions and beliefs of most cultures and religions of the world. Most of their ideas of God are something which the human mind can easily comprehend.

But I found something in the scriptures given to a people located in the very centre of the world, which was totally unbelievable. They talk about this hyper dimensional being, who is not confined to or made in the likeness of something we humans can comprehend with our finite minds.

This is what I read:

“In the beginning was the one who is called the Word. The Word was with God and was truly God. From the very beginning the Word was with God. And with this Word, God created all things. Nothing was made without the Word. Everything that was created received its life from him, and his life gave light to everyone. The light keeps shining in the dark, and darkness has never put it out.

God sent a man named John, who came to tell about the light and to lead all people to have faith. John wasn’t that light. He came only to tell about the light. The true light that shines on everyone was coming into the world. The Word was in the world, but no one knew him [Jesus Christ], though God had made the world with his Word. He came into his own world, but his own nation did not welcome him.

Yet some people accepted him and put their faith in him. So he gave them the right to be the children of God. They were not God’s children by nature or because of any human desires. God himself was the one who made them his children. The Word became a human being and lived here with us. We saw his true glory, the glory of the only Son of the Father. From him all the kindness and all the truth of God have come down to us. “ (John 1:1-14 CEV)

There are some powerful words which come from the scriptures of a people who lived at the crossroads of Asia, Africa and Europe, in the region called Israel. It is from a book called the Bible, and come from the second part of this book, called the New Testament, written 2000 years ago, todays date being 5th April 2015, celebrated as the ‘resurrection day’, when Jesus Christ rose from the grave after being crucified and buried three days prior.

Science is only now recognizing that dimensions beyond the three can exist. Space and time are mysteries that we humans cannot fully comprehend. That is why the triune God, the one who made all of us and the universe, is a being that human minds cannot comprehend. If you have a concept of God which you can logically understand, then it is very much possible that this god is a product of human imagination. The Christian concept of Trinity, three Gods in one, each unique and yet at the same time one God, is unparalleled in the beliefs of people anywhere in the world.

Hyper-Dimensional-Life-of-Jesus-Christ-Cube-Salvador-Dali-Science-Resurrection-Heaven-Scientifically-Understood-Science-Quantum-Physics-breadth-length-height-depth

Yes, this Hyperdimensional Jesus. One who was said to still the wind and waves on command, to walk upon the water, to pass through walls and visibly ascend, is this not a hyper dimensional Master of Matter? One who is said to have reversed the power of entropic force, releasing Death’s static grip and descending to Abraham’s Bosom to release the bound.

No one has ever seen God. The only Son Jesus, who is truly God and is closest to the Father, has shown us what God is like. (John 1:18 CEV) [By Son, he is not referring to a biological relationship, but a hyperdimensional spiritual relationship that we humans cannot fully understand]

Dear reader, there is a hyperdimensional being out there, who stepped into our world at a definite point in time and space. God entered our world as Jesus Christ, the sinless man, he lived and gave up His life on the cross, to pay the price for your sins and mine.

This is love, my friend. Love always gives.

Love is kind and patient, never jealous, boastful, proud, or rude. Love isn’t selfish or quick tempered. It doesn’t keep a record of wrongs that others do. Love rejoices in the truth, but not in evil. Love is always supportive, loyal, hopeful, and trusting. Love never fails! Everyone who prophesies will stop, and unknown languages will no longer be spoken. All that we know will be forgotten.

(1 Corinthians 13:4-8 CEV)

We know deep in our hearts that there is a problem with our hearts. We have this tendency to sin. Why deny it with some high sounding philosophy? Covering up the real root cause of our problem has led to untold misery in the lives of billions of people.

Admit that you are who you really are, and that your heart needs to change. God loves you and will continue to love you, but you know what? He hates lies, dishonesty and pride.

He has given you a time like this to come before Him, and accept that He has [by stepping into this world as Jesus Christ and laying down His life on the cross] paid the full price for your sins, mistakes, and is willing to accept you if only you have faith in what He has done, giving up His life as the full sacrifice for your sins. He is not asking for any sacrifice or pilgrimage or donation!

Dear reader, there is not a second to lose, and only eternity to gain, if you make that choice willingly and with your whole heart. Let the God of love be with you as you take this step.

I am praying for you.

Homecoming or Ghar Wapsi?

There is a lot of talk about Ghar Wapsi or Homecoming in India nowadays [Dec 2014], especially by people belonging to the RSS or similar groups who want people of other faiths living in India to embrace a particular religion.

I say, great! I am for it too!

What, exclaim my friends! You being a Christian are saying this?

I say, cool, relax, let me explain 🙂

Ghar Wapsi or Homecoming is all about going back to our original religion, the God whom our very first ancestor worshipped at the beginning, right?

If that is so, let us peek back in time, shall we?

Where have our ancestors, forefathers come from?

National Geographic did a study on Mitochondrial DNA to study where humans have migrated from. “Every drop of human blood contains a history book written in the language of our genes,” says population geneticist Spencer Wells, a National Geographic explorer-in-residence.

In the mid-1980s the late Allan Wilson and colleagues at the University of California, Berkeley, used mtDNA to pinpoint humanity’s ancestral home. The map of human migration which they made based on mitochondrial DNA studies. The map was a big surprise for those who believed that humans have come out of Africa! [Please see at bottom of post]

Archeology and history also point to the fact that our earliest recorded civilizations are no more than five thousand years old, and most of them are located in the region of present day Iraq. [If evolutionary timeframes were true, where is the evidence for the so-called millions of years of human history?]

Did you know that there are stories of a global flood in almost all the people and cultures of the world, either in written form or oral.

The Bible in Genesis also tells us about a global flood around 4500 years ago, ie 2500 BC.

Why was there a flood?

Just a few centuries after Adam and Eve, this is what happened: The LORD saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time. The LORD regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled. So the LORD said, “I will wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created–and with them the animals, the birds and the creatures that move along the ground–for I regret that I have made them.”

But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD.

(Genesis 6:5-8 NIV)

History tells us that this flood wiped out all humans who existed at that time except for eight people on the ark.

After the flood the ark with Noah and his three sons and their wives settled in the region near Mount Ararat.

The placing of the catastrophic global flood in the year 2504 BC means that all civilizations discovered by archaeology must fit into the last 4,500 years.

Within a few centuries of the flood, humans had spread over the Middle East.

After God confused their languages at Babel, around 2200 BC humans spread out to the entire world [Genesis 11:9].

So our ancestors came from the region of present day Iraq [as confirmed by genetic analysis]

So what is our original religion?

God has made man with a heart that loves to worship. We still love to worship anything or everything that we adore or aspire. Some worship money, others power, others a Cricket hero and so on.

After Noah, God allowed his descendants the freedom to worship whatever or whoever their hearts desired. That is how religions came into existence. Religion is man trying to reach out to God. What prevents man from connecting with God is our own selfish nature, our heart. That is why the Bible talks about the amazing love of God in reaching out to us humans as Jesus Christ, the Saviour who would rescue us from our sins and shame.

Since we are on the topic of Ghar Vapsi or Homecoming, let us come back to Noah our very first ancestor. He worshipped the living God, the Creator of the heavens and the earth!

Indians [and the whole of humanity] are descended from Noah and his three sons and their wives who were in the ark with him.

That is why I say, I am all for Ghar Vapsi or Homecoming! I say, let us all, all Indians, go back to the original, the God that our very first father worshipped. God is waiting for all of us to return to Him.

PS: No one can force or tempt you to accept the real Jesus Christ.

Why? Because Christianity is a heart relationship with God through Jesus Christ born out of love.

Jesus never promised money, property, jobs or fame, only inner peace, joy, eternal life and freedom from Sin, along with persecution from those who are opposed to the truth!

Have a blessed homecoming or Ghar Wapsi, dear reader.

Secularism and the illusion of neutrality

Do you know who you are and where you are going? The person with a postmodern mindset does not really know where they are and who they are, says Ravi Zacharias, one of this century’s noted thinkers and writers.

Everyone it seems is asking ‘what does it mean to be human…?’

Our twentieth century, far from being notable for scientific skepticism, is one of the most credulous eras in all history. It is not that people believe in nothing – which would be bad enough – but that they believe in anything – which is really terrible, said Malcolm Muggeridge.

Our culture no longer has a point of reference.

This denial of absolutes has had profound effects on all spheres of human life. The profound decline in trust between individuals, and corporations is a glaring example.

People who have always believed in absolute moral values and in a Creator God who loves them and has their best interests in mind have been seduced and brainwashed into believing anything but the truth, and the devastation is only beginning to unfurl as the years go by.

Marx and Kierkegaard were two key voices of the twentieth century. The curious thing is that though Marx purported to have an infallible scientific key to history, almost all his prophecies have failed to happen. On the other hand, Kierkegaard’s forecasts have been fulfilled to a remarkable degree. Take for instance his profound sense that if men lost the isolation, the separateness, which awareness of the presence of God alone can give, they would soon find themselves irretrievably part of a collectivity with only mass communications to shape their hopes, formulate their values and arrange their thinking . . .

What has secularism to do with this, you may well ask.

Figure 1 What do you really mean by Secularism?

First of all let us see what people believe in the present day and age.

Do you recognize yourself and your friend’s beliefs reflected in this poem, called the Modern Thinker’s Creed, by Steve Turner?

We believe in Marx, Freud, and Darwin We believe everything is OK as long as you don’t hurt anyone to the best of your definition of hurt, and to the best of your knowledge.

We believe in sex before, during, and after marriage. We believe in the therapy of sin. We believe that adultery is fun. We believe that sodomy’s OK. We believe that taboos are taboo.

We believe that everything’s getting better despite evidence to the contrary. The evidence must be investigated And you can prove anything with evidence.

We believe there’s something in horoscopes UFO’s and bent spoons. Jesus was a good man just like Buddha, Muhammed, and ourselves. He was a good moral teacher though we think His good morals were bad.

We believe that all religions are basically the same-at least the one that we read was. They all believe in love and goodness. They only differ on matters of creation, sin, heaven, hell, God, and salvation.

We believe that after death comes the Nothing. Because when you ask the dead what happens they say nothing. If death is not the end, if the dead have lied, then its compulsory heaven for all excepting perhaps Hitler, Stalin, and Genghis Kahn

We believe in Masters and Johnson. What’s selected is average. What’s average is normal. What’s normal is good.

We believe in total disarmament. We believe there are direct links between warfare and bloodshed. Americans should beat their guns into tractors. And the Russians would be sure to follow.

We believe that man is essentially good. It’s only his behavior that lets him down. This is the fault of society. Society is the fault of conditions. Conditions are the fault of society.

We believe that each man must find the truth that is right for him. Reality will adapt accordingly. The universe will readjust. History will alter. We believe that there is no absolute truth excepting the truth that there is no absolute truth.

We believe in the rejection of creeds, and the flowering of individual thought.

If chance be the Father of all flesh, disaster is his rainbow in the sky and when you hear

State of Emergency! Sniper Kills Ten! Troops on Rampage! Whites go Looting! Bomb Blasts School! It is but the sound of man worshiping his maker.

I heard this today from Ravi Zacharias, and thought I would share it here. It parodies the polemic often heard today by residents of America’s [and other so called ‘developed’ worlds] Institutes of Higher Education, who have been raised in the last few decades under the State sanctioned beliefs of Secularism, and if they believe in God at all, it is one that effectively has one man blowing himself and others up to gain a sexual Paradise, while another is meditation on his navel to attain his version of such, through the annihilation of desire.

What were the steps in this slow decline of our morals, trust and security?

  1. Rejection of the beneficial transcendent moral authority of the Bible, which provides liberty with its necessary limits, with the immutable holy Creator as God.
  2. Increasing acceptance of the objectively baseless morality of secularism, which promotes everyone doing what it right in his own eyes (contra. Deut. 12:8), resulting in the most morally confused generation America and other so called developed nations has ever raised, open to the ever morphing degrees of immorality, with gaining carnal pleasures, possessions and prestige being exalted, and leaders who “by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.” (Romans 16:18).

This paradigmatic change may be seen to have manifestly begun with the 60’s sexual revolution, which the Left sees as a success, while we reap the fruits of its corruption. In no small part is the role played by new age philosophies [old wine in new bottles, exported from their lands of origin where they have failed miserably for centuries] which are contradictory at their very core.

I feel that Secularism has played a large role in the present mess we all find ourselves in.

Malcom wrote this poignant summary “So the final conclusion would surely be that whereas other civilizations have been brought down by attacks of barbarians from without, ours had the unique distinction of training its own destroyers at its own educational institutions, and then providing them with facilities for propagating their destructive ideology far and wide, all at the public expense. Thus did Western Man decide to abolish himself, creating his own boredom out of his own affluence, his own vulnerability out of his own strength, his own impotence out of his own erotomania, himself blowing the trumpet that brought the walls of his own city tumbling down, and having convinced himself that he was too numerous, labored with pill and scalpel and syringe to make himself fewer. Until at last, having educated himself into imbecility, and polluted and drugged himself into stupefaction, he keeled over–a weary, battered old brontosaurus–and became extinct.”

But Jesus does save sinners.

I do not know much about the author, British journalist Steve Turner, but he has some other Christian poems, such as this excerpt,

If Jesus was thirty today they wouldn’t really care about the public ministry, they’d be too busy investigating His finances and trying to prove He had Church or Mafia connections. The miracles would be explained by an eminent and controversial magician, His claims to be God’s Son recognised as excellent examples of Spoken English and immediately incorporated into the O-Level syllabus, His sinless perfection considered by moral philosophers as, OK, but a bit repressive.

If Jesus was thirty-one today He’d be the fly in everyone’s ointment- the sort of controversial person who stands no chance of eminence. Communists would expel Him, capitalists would exploit Him or have Him smeared by people who know a thing or two about God. Doctors would accuse Him of quackery, soldiers would accuse Him of cowardice, and theologians would take Him aside and try to persuade Him of His non-existence.

If Jesus was thirty-two today we’d have to end it all. Heretic, fundamentalist, literalist, puritan, pacifist, non-conformist, we’d take Him away and quietly end the argument. But the argument would rumble in the ground at the end of three days and would break out and walk around as though death was some bug, saying ‘I am the resurrection and the life… No man cometh to the Father but by me’. While the magicians researched new explanations and the semanticists wondered exactly what He meant by ‘I’ and ‘No man’ there would be those who stand around amused, asking for something called proof.

Ask yourself whom you would rather believe, the Creator God who gave us His very own life to purchase our freedom from the guilt, shame and power of sin, or fancy stories designed for itching ears which ought to have known better.

If you need any further prodding consider this classic rebuttal of the modern secularist thinker by Malcolm Muggeridge:

The greatest artists, saints, philosophers and, until quite recent times, scientists, through the Christian centuries, . . . have all assumed that the New Testament promise of eternal life is valid, and that the great drama of the Incarnation which embodies it, is indeed the master-drama of our existence.

To suppose that these distinguished believers were all credulous fools whose folly and credulity in holding such beliefs has now been finally exposed, would seem to me untenable; and anyway I’d rather be wrong with Dante and Shakespeare and Milton, with Augustine of Hippo and Francis of Assisi, with Dr Johnson, Blake and Dostoevsky than right with Voltaire, Rousseau, the Huxleys, Herbert Spencer, H.G. Wells and Bernard Shaw.

Unexpected side-effect of allowing same-sex marriages

God who created us male and female made marriage to be the best relationship between a man and a woman. Obviously He knows what is best. But modern man thinks he is wiser than God and has pressured many Governments to allow or legalize same-sex ‘marriages’. These ‘same-sex-marriages’, besides being an abomination to God and the very institution of marriage, are also now being used by criminals to smuggle people into these very countries.

BBC sting exposes fake same-sex marriage scam

Figure 1 FOR A FEE OF £10,000, ANY NON-EU CITIZEN CAN ENTER IN A FAKE SAME-SEX MARRIAGE

LONDON: A new crime category has emerged in Britain after same-sex marriages were made legal in March: fake marriages between same-sex couples for a fee that enables a non-EU citizen skirt strict visa rules and stay in the country after ‘marrying’ a UK/EU citizen.

Organised gangs provide a man or woman for an all-expenses fee of £10,000, so that the non-EU citizen can enter into the fake marriage. Registrars and immigration officials are said to be struggling to stop such marriages.

The usual modus operandi of such ‘marriages’ is that after it is registered, the two individuals go their separate ways, and file for divorce after the non-EU citizen gets permission to stay in the country after the mandatory period.

In the past, several Indian citizens were arrested for being part of such fake but different sex marriages. After March, when same-sex marriages became legal, there are no reports yet of Indians being involved in such fake marriages.

However, a BBC sting operation telecast on Monday shows an Asian undercover reporter being given the name of ‘ Ruby’ from Mumbai by a gang member, who organised the fake marriage, so that she could stay in the country. ‘Ruby’ posed as an illegal immigrant urgently seeking a fake marriage to stay in the UK, while another posed as her uncle.

The gang offered two potential fake Romanian brides to the reporter, both of whom explicitly stated they were not lesbians but were willing to pretend to be gay and marry anyone for cash. Romania joined the EU in 2007, and from January this year, UK lifted temporary restrictions on them to move here.

Peter and Ricardo, the gang’s leaders, boasted to the undercover reporters they had ‘fixed’ weddings ‘lots of times’, while one of the girls, Alexandra, said she had previously organised six fake weddings and knew how to deceive immigration officers.

Mark Rimmer, head of Registration and Nationality Services in the London borough of Brent, told BBC: “Here in Brent, the Home Office stops marriages on a weekly basis…I think it is probably more difficult to spot the signs if you have a same sex couple whether they be male or female.”

Who is trying to rewrite Indian History?

24 Sep 2014, Hindustan Times (Delhi), SITARAM YECHURY the views expressed by the author are personal

Ignorance, lies posing as truth

ZoomBookmarkSharePrintListenTranslate

The RSS, in its effort to convert our modern secular democratic republic into a ‘Hindu rashtra’, is trying to rewrite our history.

The latest incident of the dismissal of 11 Dalit students from a BJP state government-run school in Bikaner, Jaipur, on the grounds that they were drinking water from an earthen pot earmarked for an upper caste teacher once again highlights the continuing caste and social oppression in our country. It is indeed the irony of our times that on the same day the RSS chief released three books authored by a BJP spokesperson, carrying forewords by three top RSS leaders attributing the genesis of Dalits, tribals and many other oppressed groups to “Muslim invasion in medieval times”. RSS leaders claim that these castes had come into existence due to atrocities by foreign invaders and did not exist in Hindu religion earlier (The Hindustan Times, September 22, 2014).

REUTERSThe origins of the RSS itself are based on the religious sanction of the ‘Hindu code’ which the most sacrosanct of RSS sarsanghchalaks, Madhav Sadashiv Golwalkar, endorsed

The RSS emboldened by the central government under its political arm, the BJP, has intensified its efforts, to validate a common Hindu thread to unify all groups under one Hindu identity. For this, it is essential that the history of the lands constituting our great country today is rewritten according to their narrative. This is essential for carrying forward the RSS ideological project of converting the modern secular democratic Indian republic into their conception of a ‘Hindu rashtra’. The entire diversity of culture, traditions, language and customs of the people who have inhabited India over the centuries is sought to be straitjacketed into a monolithic ‘Hinduism’. Secondly, an external enemy (i.e. external to Hindus) needs to be created — the Muslims — against whom a hate campaign can be whipped up for achieving this objective.

In this latest exercise of rewriting history, Bhaiyaji Joshi, the second in command in RSS hierarchy, says that the ‘shudras’ were never untouchables in Hindu scriptures. ‘Islamic atrocities’ during the medieval age resulted in the emergence of untouchables, Dalits and Indian Muslims.

Echoing a similar tune another top RSS functionary writes that the oppressed castes and sub-castes came into existence as a result of atrocities against Brahmins and Kshatriyas during the Islamic age, “Dalits had the genesis during Turks, Muslims and Mughal eras”. Focusing on such lines of rewriting Indian history, media reports that one of the RSS affiliates recently convened a conclave of over hundred historians to discuss historiography and changes (in our syllabi), to construct an overarching Hindu identity beyond any caste or sub-castes in order to achieve the objective of Hindu consolidation.

That the caste system and the accompanied social atrocities never existed in ancient Hindu society and were the creation or the incorporation into such a society by Muslim invasions is a gross distortion of recorded history as well as the rich experience of oral historiography that has run through millennia in these lands. In fact the origins of the RSS itself are based on the religious sanction of the ‘Hindu code’ which the most sacrosanct of RSS sarsanghchalaks, Madhav Sadashiv Golwalkar, endorsed. In a 1939 tract titled ‘We or Our Nationhood Defined’, Golwalkar acclaims Manu as the “first and greatest law giver of the world” who “lays down in his code directing all the peoples of the world to go to Hindustan to learn their duties at the holy feet of ‘eldest born’ Brahmins of this land”. In a much later work, the Bunch of Thoughts (1966), he says “Brahmin is the head, King (Kshatriyas) the hands, Vaishya the thighs and Shudras the feet. This means that the people who have thus, four fold arrangement, i.e. the Hindu people is our God.”

Now what does the Manusmriti say? “Serving Brahmins alone is recommended as the best innate activity of a Shudra; for whatever he does other than this there is no fruit for him” (Chapter X, 123). The Manusmriti then proceeds to define the outcastes and untouchables who have no place in society at all and defines their menial activities. This intolerant caste structure finds expression in the RSS today as the Manusmriti is exclusively based on ‘Aryan social organisation’. “Un-Aryan behaviour, harshness, cruelty and habitual failure to perform the rituals are the manifestations in this world indicating that a man is born of a defiled womb” (Chapter X, 58).

The establishment of such a ‘Hindu rashtra’ however, requires incontrovertible proof that Aryans originated from these lands alone and did not come here from anywhere else. All questions of historical evidence are brushed aside by the RSS, by an assertion of ‘matters of faith’. Historian Romila Thapar, establishes that “the linguistic evidence of Vedic Sanskrit supports the coming into India of an Indo-European language from Iran but does not support the notion that India was the homeland of the Aryan speaking people”. (Seminar, 400, 1992). All this is brushed aside as ‘faith’ takes over evidence, mythology over history and theology over philosophy.

In India, Hinduism enforces poverty on those labelled ‘untouchables’. To help people most in need of help brings ‘bad karma’ on you personally (because you are interfering with the ‘law’ of karma where the station of a person in this life is due to their deeds in a former life), so people do not have a reason within their religion to help others in need, etc.

It is the tenacity of such a criminally oppressive social order that continues to perpetuate gross injustices in India today. According to a report published by the ministry of labour in 2001, (the last of its kind), 15% of the population constituting the three upper castes (Brahmins, Kshatriyas and Vaishyas) with no legal reservations occupy 66.5% of political representation, 43% of education, 87% of employment, 97% of business and 94% of landed estates. The rest of the population consisting of the OBCs (Shudras), the SCs and STs, along with the Muslims, with a population share of 85% share the rest in hopeless conditions of inhuman inequality. This social order has to be overthrown to begin the struggle for justice.

The RSS/BJP’s agenda of rewriting Indian history is designed to perpetuate such unacceptable levels of social oppression along with the denial of basic human rights for anyone they consider as un-Hindu — their blueprint for the future of India.

Author’s note: The Hinduism/Brahmanism of India was imported and imposed onto India’s earlier population from outside invaders who happened to have lighter skin tones on average. It’s probably no coincidence that the upper caste of Hindu society, the Brahmins, are mostly lighter-skinned. The lowest caste, the so-called ‘untouchables’, who can still occasionally be killed for daring to touch a Brahmin, are predominantly the darker-skinned descendants of the vanquished people group. The whole horrible caste system seems designed to keep an entire group of people in a permanently servile state. Did I say ‘horrible system’? Indeed so. ‘Political correctness’ should not deter us from ‘speaking the truth in love’ (Ephesians 4:15)

That’s why it’s important to repeatedly emphasize the truth of Genesis history and what it means for all such ideas—they are simply untenable. Our true history should remind Christians in particular of two great facts. One is our fallen nature, so prone to thinking and acting wrongly towards others. The other is the immensely close relatedness of all members of our one human family.
